Saturday 13th January

A visit between 8.45 and 10.30 this morning.

2 Green Woodpecker in the west scrub area as well as a few Redwing. Crossing the railway there were 5 Grey Heron flying towards the Heronery on the Medway but not much else of note on Abbey Mead.

Walking to the North end of Abbey Mead a Goldcrest showed very well (number 60 for the year) and 2+ Cettis called. A Water Rail showed well on the Medway, several Bullfinch were heard calling and 2 Redshank (61!) flew across the river. Bearded Tit called a couple of times in Sunken Marsh but as usual remained hidden. c40 Teal circled Abbey Mead, disturbed by shooting somewhere along the Medway.
