Friday 29th December

A late afternoon visit between 3.15 and 4.30. I checked the usual Bittern spot when I arrived but no sign although a male and red head Goosander were still showing well as well as 2 GC Grebe and a Little Grebe. Over to Abbey Mead I had a quick scan but a fisherman was in my usual spot. I wandered back to the usual Bittern spot at about 3.45 and waited to see if a Bittern would put in an apperance. Just after a Water Rail had shot across in front of where we were standing I noticed a Bittern climbing up into the reeds where it stayed until the late had practically gone at 4.30.
