Wednesday July 12th

A visit between 09.30 and 10.45 this morning. Hot and sunny.

I parked at the Brook House entrance for a change today. As I walked up the path there were damsels and dragonflies everywhere and quite a few butterflies. Common Darter, Black Tailed Skimmer and a single Emperor were the most obvious.

Birds were fairly quiet. An adult and 2 juv Green Woodpeckers in the open area as well as a family party of Willow Warbler. 2 Common Tern were on Brookland Lake and 2 Reed Warbler were still in song there.

A good day overall for butterflies, 8+ Red Admiral, 4 Comma, 2 Ringlet, 2 Speckled Wood, and lots of Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown and Small White.

The scrape held 15 BH Gulls but apart from that was quiet. The only other sighting of note was a dead Mole along the Millstream.
