Thursday January 1st
Frustratingly I couldn't get out until about 2pm today so had a couple of hours or so to kick off my year list at New Hythe. I did manage to see 47 species and hear 2 more - so that's not bad. Last year i spent all day there on January 1st and managed 60 species.
Best species were a redhead Goosander on Alders Pit (off Lunsford Lane) and a drake and 2 duck Red Crested Pochard on Tesco Lake. The first I have seen here for a number of years. I also saw a Stonechat. I missed plenty of common species so plenty to add on my next visits.
Blackbird, Blue Tit, Magpie, Black Headed Gull, Coot, Long Tailed Tit, Robin, Cormorant, Red Crested Pochard (3), Greylag Goose, Mute Swan, Mallard, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Woodpigeon, Common Gull, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Moorhen, Sparrowhawk (2), Robin, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Dunnock, Chiffchaff (2), Pochard, Starling, Lesser Black backed Gull, Pigeon, shoveler, Carrion Crow, Collared Dove, Mistle Thrush, Great Tit, Goldfinch, House Sparow, Herring Gull, Goosander, Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, song Thrush, Stonechat, Pied Wagtail, Fieldfare.
