Saturday 12th April

A nice bright but cold morning for my visit between 6.15 and 9am. I was hoping to increase my list of Spring migrants but added just one, a Nightingale singing close to the stile by the railway line in the East Scrub area. It responded to my whisltles but didn't show itself.

Other sightings today were 17 Blackcap, 13 Chiffchaff, 8 Willow Warbler (lower than recently so a number must have been on passage) 10 Cettis, also 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green woodpecker, 1 Sand Martin, 2 Soaring Sparrowhawk (a pair which are nesting close by) 1 Bullfinch and 2 Reed Bunting. Also one Water Vole.

Brillant news about the Nightingale. Is it the earliest you've had them arrive at New Hythe? Great photos too.
