Monday 17th March

A quick hour visit this morning from 10.30 proved to be very worthwhile as I added two new species for the year. An incredibly early House Martin was flying high over the Poplars close to the railway line along with 16 Sand Martin. Nearby there was a Green Sandpiper on the scrape, 5 singing Chiffchaff and two 2 Green Woodpecker. As I was about to leave i stopped to talk to Martin Warburton & Martin Coath and we saw a large Sparrowhawk flying towards Abbey Mead and then 2 soaring Common Buzzard behind.

That House Martin is quite early Steve, do you keep a record of first dates? if so how does it compare to previous years?
