Thursday 22nd March

A short visit before work today. Again very cold, 0 degrees but still and bright.

4 Little Egret together on the scrape was a good start. 3 flew off fairly quickly but one staying put. Scanning the scrape I also found 2 Green Sandpipers feeding together at the far end. A Meadow Pipit flew over and 2 Green Woodpeckers shot past. A Water Vole 'plopped' and disappeared in the Millstream.

Over the railway towards the Medway, just past the Heronry I flushed another Green Sand off of the river. Chiffchaffs were really evident this morning with more than 10 singing around the patch. As I walked past the sunken marsh a Grey Wagtail flew over.

Spring has finally sprung with 4 Sand Martin over Brooklands Lake.

3+ Goldfinch in Brooklands car park, 2 drumming GS Woodpecker along the Millstream and a calling Bullfinch near the Water Works completed this mornings sightings.
