Saturday March 10th

A visit between 7am and 8am this morning.

A single Redwing called and showed briefly in a treetop as I arrived. I had a scan of the scrape but the water level is very high which is disappointing. A Green Woodpecker called from the open area near the railway.

Over to Abbey Mead and along the Medway. 2 Shelduck and 20+ Teal on the river and good numbers of Grey Heron silhouetted in the early light were very photogenic. A few Bullfinch called but remained hidden.

GREY HERON

The first of 5 Cettis called along the river and 2 Jay called loudly as the chased each other. Several Reed Bunting called from the sunken marsh but apart from that it was fairly quiet here (if you discount the amount of bird song from common birds which was fantastic)

Back through the bridge to Brooklands car park, a female Blackcap showed briefly on a fence and then disappeared.

WILLOW

The only other bird of note was a drumming Great Spot near the water works.
