Wednesday 27th February

A visit today between 8.45 and 10.30. Raining continually throughout.

Again good numbers of Reed Bunting flying around and singing. Green Woodpecker, 5+ Redwing, a small flock of Chaffinch and a single Jay were the highlights on the Leybourne Lakes side of the railway.

I crossed the railway and added the first of 5 Bullfinch, walking along the Medway the Herony again is in full swing. A Cettis called from over the river and 1+ Redshank called noisely as I passed. 17 Teal also here.

The sunken marsh at the north end of Abbey Mead held 2 Cettis, a Water Rail and 3 Bullfinch. Walking around Brooklands it was annoying that it was too wet to bring my camera out as the Ferruginous Duck showed superbly just 10 feet from the bank.

Back along the Millstream a Weasel shot across the path, also saw the first of 5 Mistle Thrush and 8 Goldfinch here. A Little Egret flew across the scrape and landed briefly before heading off.
