Friday 25th August

A visit today between 10.15 and 11.45. Weather warm, bright and still.

I parked at the Brook House entrance today and walking up the path saw at least 6 Speckled Wood and several Small and Large White. Elsewhere I also added Meadow Brown and a very worn female Common Blue.

Quiet again as far as birds are concerned. few Green Woodpecker, a Great Spot, a Kingfisher on Abbey Mead and a few Chiffs/W Warblers.

Lots of Migrant Hawkers (Aeshna mixta) around. I got a few pictures - tried to get a decent one in flight but still not quite nailed it!

In addition to the Migrant Hawkers I did manage to snap a Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) as well. Saw a lot of these egg laying in tandem in the ditches, dipping into the water to wash off the eggs. Also saw plenty of Ruddy Darter and at least one Brown Hawker.
