Thursday June 1st

A visit between 05.50 and 07.10 this morning. Sunny but cool conditions with no wind.

A Nightingale singing from a new spot by the bridge near the scrape was one of 4 singing this morning. Also saw this Nightingale making a strident whistling call as it collected food presumably for it's young.

It was generally quiet this morning - the bird song is definitely reducing. A few Willow Warbler singing still in the scrub along, of course with the noisy Whitethroat.

I crossed the railway and walked alongside Abbey Mead - I added Lesser Whitethroat, Cettis Warbler and had excellent views of a Garden Warbler as I approached Brookland Lake.

Brookland Lake was quiet - apart from Reed Warbler still singing away.

Down the Millstream back towards the scrape there were my first hirundines of the day - 20 or so Swift very high up. Also a pair of Goldfinch collecting nesting material, a calling Cuckoo and at least 6 Blackcap.

A couple of quick snaps of a White Campion in flower back by the car and a bee warming up on a Thistle head by the scrape before I had to head off to work.
