Wednesday 4th June

My annual visit to Mereworth Woods this evening a few miles away. Arrived at 8.30 and left around 10.30. Heard at least 3 Nightjar with some great fly-past views and wing-clapping. Also c4 roding Woodcock and a distant Tawny Owl. Also hundreds of Common Spotted Orchid around the wood and a number of fly past Pipistrelle Bats.

Sounds like you had a great evening. I visited Kings Wood in Challock last Saturday evening and the Nightjars and Woodcocks gave fantatic views, with 1 Nightjar coming literally 2-3metres away! The Tree Pipits were also singing.

I am hoping to visit Mereworth Wood myself this summer to see Nightjar & Woodcock.

Just wondering if you can recommened a good spot in the woods where I might have more chance of success?

Many thanks

Alex
