Sunday 24th June

A visit between 6am and 8am this morning - it rained almost continuously.

Parked at Brook House and walked from there today. Several Blackcap were in song along the path here, with a Great Spot calling but remaining hidden. Two Whitethroat were singing in the east scrub area. Crossing the railway track and walking around Abbey Mead - a Lesser Whitethroat rattled away - the first of three this morning. The odd Reed Warbler sang on the way around, a male Bullfinch showed well in the sunken marsh and a bedraggled Turtle Dove was on the wires, 2 Sand Martin went over as well as a lone Shelduck. All the way around Abbey Mead and back across the east scrub where a Cuckoo showed exceptionally well.
