Sunday 28th January

A visit between 3.30 and 5.30 today.

Nothing of note before crossing the railway, apart from 2 Little Grebe and 20+ Gadwall on railway lake. A pair of Goldeneye on Abbey Mead with 9 Shelduck, plus another on the river. I spent a while scanning the sunken marsh but nothing of note so I again waited for Firecrest. I heard it call about 4.30 and saw 3 'crests going through to roost at about 4.45 but I didn't get enough on them again to pick out the Firecrest. A single Meadow Pipit was on the wires over the sunken marsh. Number 66 for the year. 2-3 Cettis were calling continually at the north end of Abbey Mead and a Bullfinch passed through.
