I haven't been able to get out at all recently due to a combination of a new job, my wife being ill (not made any easier by her being nearly 4 months pregnant with our 5th child!) and having a week in Scotland visiting relatives.
I thought it was going to be another weekend of no birding until I received a call from Jerry Warne at 7pm tonight. A Whooper Swan had been seen on Tesco Lake. I was there by 7.45 and in the fading light had good views of the bird. I wonder whether it is the same one Simon had on his Mote Park patch? As I haven't been out this Spring I was also able to add a single Nightingale, a Willow Warbler and 20+ Sand Martin to my list.
That's not bad birding at all for 2009 with four young children. I've only got one and that puts a serious crimp on my birding! Particularly envy you your Nightingale - I think Warwickshire's last breeding Nightingale was a couple of years ago, so I'm not likely to find any on my patch :-(

Also I'm sorry, I never thought to call you on Sunday about the Whooper. I was watching it for ages at 2.30pm from just in front of where the burger man parks. I reported it to Birdguides that night.Il let you know next time I see anything.
